12th: Roma (8/10)
Alfonso Cuaron’s latest exploration into cinema is a bold step away from the tone and tempo of Gravity. Similar in pathos, Roma resonates of a childhood biopic (which Alfonso has admitted it is). By gradually increasing the emotional resolution in each scene with strategic panning shots, he creates a coherent and confident piece of Mexico and the 70s. A joy to watch and likely a future rewatch for further discovery of details not picked up on this first watch.
13th: I, Tonya (6/10)
