WINNER!

Earlier this week I received an email announcing that my submission for the ArchiShorts competition for architectural short films had been successful; the Propinquity Prize!

The ArchiShorts competition is a new initiative based in Winnipeg, Canada and is a great platform to showcase various expressions of the built environment. I have a feeling it is going to develop into something really special and I’m proud to be part of its inauguration.

The film I submitted can be found below, “A Second Glance”. It was filmed in Morocco in the cities of Fez, Chefchaouen and Tangier, three cities with distinct urban qualities, densities, flow and morphology. It was fun to make and I hope I can elaborate on these themes for next year’s ArchiShorts.

Jury responses: "I loved this. Beautiful observations of the city. Day, night, public spaces, labyrinth, the inhabited rooftops... very compelling. Rounds itself out in a satisfying way..."; and "a very strong sense of place, layered, socially complex, sensuous." For my part, I enjoyed being transported to denser city, alive with history. Your film Cicadoidea was also beguiling! We had a good debate about which of your film submissions to screen. Thank you for expanding the Archi-Shorts conversation!

You were allowed to submit a maximum of two films, of no more than two minutes each, so the second film I submitted can be found below. Cicadoidea is more of an exploration into soundscape as a connector.
